This meeting was described as “good,” with both sides agreeing to continue working towards a resolution. This comes after NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported on June 17 that while the 49ers do want Aiyuk to return, financial disagreements had stalled progress.

Pelissero noted that both parties are likely to take a brief pause to enjoy the Fourth of July holiday before resuming negotiations. This optimistic development follows a period of uncertainty and trade rumors dating back to the 2024 NFL Draft. Despite the buzz, Aiyuk has never requested a trade, and the 49ers have remained firm in their commitment to the talented wideout.

Drafted 25th overall in the 2020 NFL Draft, Aiyuk is entering the final season of his rookie contract, with a base salary of $14.1 million in 2024, following the 49ers’ decision to pick up his fifth-year option. Aiyuk is likely aiming for a contract similar to that of Detroit Lions’ Amon-Ra St. Brown, who recently secured a four-year, $120 million extension.

This situation is reminiscent of the 49ers’ summer negotiations in recent years. In 2022, wide receiver Deebo Samuel requested a trade before eventually signing an extension.
